interactive light installation
Alessandro Lupi creates poetic light projects, embedded in space in a thoughtful and subtle manner to establish interaction with its surroundings and visitors. Interactive installation entitled Empathy consists of three geometric shapes, their contours gradually becoming visible in treetops using fluorescent lines. During daytime the structure’s visibility depends on weather conditions or rather the intensity of the sunlight. During nighttime geometric shapes react to the presence of passers-by: using motion sensors and UV light, shape’s delineation becomes more and more clearly visible. Geometric shapes appear like ghosts in treetops and as visitors physically move away, they gradually become less visible.
ALESSANDRO LUPI (1975, Genova) graduated in 2000 from Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti in Genoa. At the end of the 1990s he started with intense artistic explorations of light and space. At that time, he devised his first sculptures made of threads. In recent years he focuses mostly on exploring light and shadows in various sculptural and spatial settings in order to examine the boundaries of human perception. Currently he lives and works between Genoa and Berlin.
