Aleksandra Stratimirović: My Light Future

Shop windows, different locations downtown Ljubljana (until 10 Oct.)

 

The artist inhabited display windows of different shops and agencies with her lighting objects presenting statements of kids replying to her questions about their views of life, the world and the future. The project was originally conceived together with professor Federico Favero. It employs methods of classical marketing communication to expose the role of children in the society and to present their thoughts and observations to the accidental passers-by. Commercial messages shown in shop windows usually employ ungraspable values and stereotypical views of life, while this project exploits the same communicational strategy to relate more uncommon messages and thoughts usually overlooked and disregarded.

 

Aleksandra Stratimirović (www.strati.se) received her B.A. degree from the Faculty of Applied Arts and Crafts in her native Belgrade. Later she continued her studies at the Konstfack University for Arts and Crafts and at the KTH Royal Institute for Technology in Stockholm, where she specialised in lighting design. She also works in the field of sculpture, but currently she is mainly active in lighting design. She founded the Belgrade of Light festival. Her site-specific lighting installations have permanent residences at different public spaces and institutions in Sweden, where she lives and works. She has been exhibiting her works in Serbia, Italy, Slovenia, Singapore, Portugal, and the Netherlands.
